Women’s Health
Research has shown that fitness helps women meet the demands placed on us.
Women wear many hats. We are
mothers, spouses, partners, and workers. And, we take care of people, pets, homes, cars and more. So, it is vital for us to take time to take care of ourselves. Doing so makes us better equipped to take care of others –and do all that we need to do.
At Fitness Matters we use our knowledge and understanding of women’s needs to take a holistic approach to help you be healthy and to live a great life.
Lifestyle changes: Weight loss and Nutrition options
It is easy to get frustrated when your body is not the way it used to be. We offer fitness routines for weight loss as well as fitness, and we have online tools that provide healthy and tasty nutrition options. This is a powerful combination because not only does it help you to get in shape but also helps you alter your eating habits.
Stress, Cancer, and Fitness
The link between chronic stress, damage to chromosomes, and cancer has long been suspected. Two recent studies are worth noting. For example, physical
exercise which relieves stress seems to help repair damage to chromosomes and
improve the strength of immune systems. Stress relief also was shown to significantly
improve the quality of lives for women who have cancer. Two studies are not conclusive proof, of course, but more research is being conducted.
Busy Life – Core Strength -Stamina
Women are busy! We know your time is precious so we strive to provide the best value for your time. That usually means starting by building your core-strength and stamina.
The more stable the middle “core” of your body is, the more stable you are throughout your body. Typically we start by having you train in one plane on a stable surface; then when your neuromuscular connections are active again, we help you progress to multiple planes and unstable surfaces.
Fitness Uplift
You may have been an athlete all your life –or you want to run that 5K race faster next time –and with less pain afterwards. Perhaps walking or cycling for charitable causes is your interest. We can help you achieve any or all the above by designing a fitness uplift program just for you. We’ll start with an assessment to find out your fitness readiness, and especially the condition of your muscles. (Athletes
almost always suffer from potentially dangerous muscle compensation.) A couple pre-event Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) sessions could make all the difference in your performance, safety, and recovery.
Personal Fitness Training
For most of us, getting into better shape means we’ll feel better, more capable, and happier. Yet, we have lots of reasons for putting it off.
Mostly, we think it will take too much time and be too much work. It doesn’t have to, and it can be fun.
Pre-partum and Post-Partum Health and Happiness
There is an old expression: a happy mother means a happy home. Research indicates this is true.
Post-Partum
If you are a new mom and you are experiencing constant pain in your lower back or having pelvic muscle issues, we can help you through physiotherapy and moderate exercise routines.
The combination of physiotherapy and moderate fitness activities helps you regain your muscle strength, reduces pain and allows you to enjoy your newborn baby without worry.
As always, to be safe, weconduct an assessment of your body’s condition so that we understand your body, activity and lifestyle before we prescribe the right combination of exercises, frequency, and duration that are right for you.
During Pregnancy:
Fitness counts for you and your unborn baby. We offer exercise programs for pregnant women, and we are qualified to work with women who have medical conditions such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes.
Life and “Work-Out”/Life balance:
“Work-out”/Life balance means we believe that working-out should not be a hassle. Instead, we want to assure that it can just be a part of your life. Let’s talk about how we can assure that health and fitness is a part of your life.
Our Education Philosophy:
Our philosophy about fitness is not just tell “what to do and how to do” but also explain ‘why we do’. We have found that helping our clients understand the “why or the purpose” of a fitness exercise has helped them become more aware about their health, body and pay attention to what they eat.
