CLIENTS SAY

I came to Fitness Matters after my rotator cuff surgery. I was concerned that I would not get my full range of motion back.  It was very important to me to do so as I am a massage therapist in my 50′s, so my livelihood depended on a full recovery.  I was matched with Katie Coleman and Sheila Harnett.  I just can’t say enough about Katie and Sheila and how they encouraged and worked with me.  They made sure that I would be made whole again.  Through their work and kindness I can say I can do everything that I used to do, pain free.  I feel that had I not worked with Fitness Matters and the wonderful group of people I would be in a much different situation that I am now.  Thank you for everything!!!

Once again I have the pleasure of thanking you for an outstanding job with your presentation to our group, Jessica. Not only did your agenda and approach fit like a glove, they were obviously impressed by your expertise.  I knew it was going well by the amount of interaction and questions. Your enthusiasm is contagious! The group really valued their time with you. Fantastic job.

As you know, I’d been trying to heal what seemed to be a hip/glut injury.  Rest, physical therapy, massage, etc had helped get past the acute part, but I was stuck on a plateau where any regular running felt like it was a cycle of re-stressing what was trying to heal.  On one hand I was afraid that maybe I just needed to hang up the running shoes for good – but on the other hand I refused to believe that there wasn’t something that could help get things back on track.  At almost the same time both you and Dr. Keiser suggested that I try MAT to see what it could work out.  The MAT approach has been the most integrated and supportive healing modality I’ve encountered.  Between the focused sessions and the isometrics to do on my own between appts it has been a portable and sustainable healing process.  And so I’m back on the road, running without the pain that stopped me!

I used to believe that working out faster meant burning more calories and better toning of my body. At Fitness Matters I learned that working out at a faster pace does not mean that I was getting fit more quickly. Most of us think faster is better because in group fitness classes at most places, you are under pressure to keep up with the group.  So, a big insight for me was learning that slow and steady workouts that are designed to exactly what my body needs are the best way to make fast progress.

Just received my Bone Density results and everything has improved!!! No longer in the osteoporosis category and WNL for everything!!  Pretty excited about that…I want to thank you and Sheila too because wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for your guidance on PT and exercising and Sheila’s help with MAT so I could get moving!!!

“I want to thank Aaron, the best personal trainer in the world and all the Fitness Matters team for helping me spend the three months leading up to my hip replacement conditioning all the areas I now need to recover. I think that the pre-conditioning has effected my very low requirement for any pain medication. That’s a huge plus in itself!”

“I had never heard of MAT.  Now I have a sessions every week because it makes my fitness training even more effective.”

Because of a vigorous tennis life I have had two rotator cuff surgeries, bad ankle sprains, and foot suegeries. In every case, Fitness Matters has brought me back to full agility and strength on the court. Regular training sessions keep me injury-resistant. When my budget gets tight, I will shop less, but I won’t miss my workouts with Travis and Andrew! Geri S.

After the birth of my second child I felt that my body was off, somehow. I had always been active, but I wasn’t even enjoying walking. The assessment at Fitness Matters made it clear that I was using the right side of my body to perform most of my actions. I learned simple exercises that were effective, not time consuming, and that didn’t require any exercise machines. Now the left side of my body is playing its part again. I notice the difference in my posture, strength, and activity level. Poorani J

I have always been a very active person and so I was extremely distressed when what I thought was a badly-pulled groin muscle refused to heal. The doctors said hip arthritis and sent me to a course of physical therapy to get back some of the range of motion that I had suddenly lost. Physical therapy helped a lot. After ten visits or so I had much less pain and maybe 75% of my range of motion in my hip joint back. They wished me luck and talked about how good hip joint replacements are these days. A friend strongly urged me to try Fitness Matters, because “they really are great and different.” He was right. They suggested MAT therapy which provided me immediate relief from much of the residual hip pain. And, not only that: I have been steadily gaining back the last 25% of the range of motion in my joint. The benefits are wonderful; with the increased range of motion comes more freedom from pain and a definite increase in strength and agility. Every yoga class allows me to compare the right side to the left side and evaluate my progress. I have already gained back much of my hip rotation and can do things like put on my left shoe without pain and chase down high lobs on the tennis court that I thought I would never be able to do again!
